Supporting engineering and capital goods purchasing processes in China and Vietnam

The meaning of "due diligence" is to proceed with a measure of prudence by making a weighted review and carefully evaluating the associated risks before completing a transaction. The verification "in situ" of the key aspects of the qualifications documented in the selection process, both of the supplier and of their main sub-suppliers, for engineering services and capital goods (equipment and materials); in addition to being prudent, will allow to establish, if necessary, recommendations aimed at guaranteeing that the supply complies with the essential technical specifications, that it is carried out in the agreed time and is dispatched in the required conditions so that it arrives in good condition at its destination.

The "expediting" service, for engineering services purchase cases, will facilitate the communication process necessary for the development of detailed engineering, its verification and "peer review" (if required); and in all cases it will give an opportunity to verify that the procurement process complies with the established schedule and that the quality controls are carried out in accordance. It may even obtain an advanced dispatch on the agreed plan.

The "after-sales" service will allow the guarantees to be made effective, obtain a timely supply service for spare parts and follow up on optimization and modernization programs for the equipment or materials purchased.

Project management consulting

  • Risk and opportunities assessment; treatment proposals.
  • Progress and performance evaluation.
  • Analysis of specific problems in construction projects, solution proposals and emergency response actions.
  • Handling of conflicts, claims, mediation and arbitration.
  • Partnering.

the risk and opportunity evaluation exercise is carried out and the corresponding treatment proposals are proposed; This exercise allows identifying critical scenarios and anticipating them when establishing mitigation measures, or having emergency plans prepared when so established; and optimize results by identifying and evaluating opportunities.

The performance evaluation, based on a validated execution plan, is a routine practice, but in many cases, it is convenient and sometimes mandatory, to have the vision of an independent third party (auditor). A vision with mature criteria can identify gaps, which in some cases, are only perceptible from a different perspective. (As the popular saying rightly defines it, sometimes the trees do not allow us to contemplate the forest).

The broad and proven experience, and a multidisciplinary and multicultural support network, provide the ability to analyze specific, atypical or unexpected problems and propose solutions and emergency responses.

Throughout 4 decades and from different positions, as a contractor, as an entrepreneur and as a representative of the contractor, I have been directly linked to the management of contractual conflicts reflected in claims processes; the vast majority of which have been resolved without the need to resort to other levels such as arbitration or judicial process. The experience would allow me to participate in mediation and arbitration processes. I believe in the benefits of "Partnering“ environment to conduct the contractual relations between parts.

Mentoring

“Mentoring” is in a way what I have done as a Project Manager, almost every day throughout my professional life.

I believe that I am someone with whom you can communicate openly, I believe that leadership is more about influencing than exercising authority and that in times of crisis, people need support and assistance rather than advice.

I would like to share an extract from a writing that defines this activity in a masterful way:

“I, half-jokingly, say that a mentor is a combination of a soundingboard, a drill-sergeant, and a shoulder to cry on...

As a sounding board, the mentor will help you reach the rightdecisions for you and your business.

As a drill-sergeant, the mentor will make sure that you followyour decisions without procrastination.

And as a shoulder to cry on they will be there when you find ithard to go on.

A mentor, like a consultant or coach, is not a must. You can set upand succeed in running a business without one, but they help a lot.”
